concern

tar, glue, etc. from the floor.

• Scrub away the old wax, stains, and ground
in soiling with the appropriate stripping pad (or,
brushes) and scrubber
• Extract and rinse away (or, wipe up) the stripper
residue
8. Apply the first coat of floor finish with a clean
mop (dry 45 min.)
9. Apply the second coat of floor finish with a clean
mop (dry 45 min.)
10. Apply the third coat of floor finish with a clean

coats to keep costs down. The number of coats of polish
applied may be specified by the type of vinyl flooring
you have.)

In Preparation for Your V.C.T. Cleaning
Please allow us to communicate a few important points
that should prove very helpful.
CAUTION! Once we begin your V.C.T. cleaning, we will
apply special pretreatments and V.C.T. solutions that
are VERY SLIPPERY. Please take special caution when
walking near the work area. Also, the tools can pose
TRIP HAZARDS. PLEASE BE CAREFUL. We recommend closing
off the areas until the work is finished.
DRYING TIME. The drying time for most V.C.T. finish
is about 45 minutes, depending on the thickness of
the application, the volume of air circulation, the
temperature and the relative humidity in the room.
You may wish to improve the drying time by setting
the temperature to about 75° F and turning on
ceiling fans. Warmer air will draw moisture out of
your V.C.T. finish faster.
FURNITURE MARKS. We suggest that you not put your
furniture back until the last coat of finish is fully
dry. Putting furniture back too early can create marks
in the new finish.
RESOILING. After we leave, the V.C.T. will be damp.
All foot traffic should be avoided until the drying
is complete. V.C.T. finish will mar and resoil easily
while damp.
FREQUENCY. There is no set rule as to how often V.C.T.
should be cleaned. Frequency of V.C.T. cleaning varies
due to the texture of the tile, the amount of foot
traffic, the number of V.C.T. finishing coats, the
frequency of sweeping and mopping, etc. V.C.T. should
generally be cleaned as soon as imbedded soiling begins
to appear or the V.C.T. looks dull. Your customer
care guide/warranty supplied by the manufacturer may
specify a maximum length of time in between professional
V.C.T. cleanings.
FUTURE SCHEDULING. If you would like your V.C.T. cleaned
on a routine basis, you may call our office at 901-754-5654.
Please mention to our representative that you would
like your V.C.T. cleaned on a 6, 12, 18, 24, or 36
month basis. The need for cleaning varies significantly
between different customers.
Maintenance
Tips for Vinyl Composition Tile, V.C.T.
Retain extra V.C.T. for possible repairs that may
be needed in the future. Keep the materials in a dry
place that stays about room temperature. Keep the
V.C.T. laying on a flat surface.
Keep the outside entrance areas (sidewalks, porches,
driveways) free of sand and debris.
Non-staining walk off mats (avoid rubber mats) and
entry rugs are strongly recommended at building entry
ways (both inside and outside) to catch most of the
soiling. The mass majority of the soil and grit that
will fall into the room will do so in the first six
feet of the entrances. Mats should be cleaned recurrently;
otherwise, the mats will accelerate the soiling.
Sweep or dust mop your V.C.T. once per day. Sand and
grit will scratch and dull the finish.
Damp mop your V.C.T. floor with water or an appropriate
neutral cleaner to remove stubborn soiling.
Clean, strip and polish the entire floor once every
6 to 12 months. You should strongly consider using
a professional company like See Spot Go Cleaning &
Restoration to strip and polish the floor if you're
not trained in this area. Never dry strip a V.C.T.
floor. Standard surfaces should receive between 3
to 5 coats of finish. Slip resistance surfaces should
receive 1 to 3 coats of finish. Apply finishes in
thin layers only.
Do not ever let the finish wear completely through
in any area. Apply a refresher coat as necessary to
the high traffic areas.
Occasionally, spray buff or perform high-speed burnishing
with a polishing machine and the appropriate pad to
restore luster, dislodge soiling and smooth out blemishes
in the original finish coat.
Use a nonabrasive polishing cleaner to remove scuff
marks and black heel marks.
Be especially careful when handling janitorial and
industrial chemicals (e.g., food dyes, solvents, acids,
disinfectants, pesticides, paint, ink, grease and
other petroleum byproducts, etc.). These chemicals
can ruin the surface with stains if not cleaned up
immediately. See Spot Go Cleaning & Restoration
provides solutions to these otherwise impossible problems.
Tend to stains and spills immediately after occurrence.
Stains tend to set permanently with time. Many stains
that may be removable will become permanent if not
wiped up immediately. Try to remove stains with mineral
spirits, isopropyl alcohol, lighter fluid or acetone.
(CAUTION: These are flammable liquids and should be
handled carefully.)
Reflect direct sunlight away from V.C.T. to prevent
fading and discoloration.
Avoid placing an appliance directly on your flooring
that produces high levels of heat. Refrigerators and
ovens are known to produce heat that can permanently
damage your flooring.
Use underlayments under rugs to prevent possible dye
transfer and to prevent the rug from traveling.
Relocate furniture occasionally to distribute traffic
patterns.
Prevent indentations from furniture with pointed legs
by using hard, plastic casters and cups. A wide caster
will disperse the weight of the furniture.
Use carpet or felt pad protectors (not plastic or
rubber) on the bottom of furniture that is moved frequently.
Change out the furniture pads periodically.
Tend to repairs immediately to keep repair expenses
as low as possible.
Avoid dragging heavy furniture across the V.C.T..
Walking on V.C.T. with stiletto or spiked heels, especially
those with worn spiked heal caps, will cause excessive
wear which is often not covered under warranties.
Change the filters in your air conditioning system
regularly.
